Our MCS
Daljinsko učenje
Experience

Pokušali smo se osloniti na tehnologije koje su studenti već upoznati; kako god, RLE may require some new tools and our teachers will do their best to offer students with needed supports.
Below, we include responses to questions we anticipate families may have about remote learning. We are grateful for our amazing students and families as we embark on this new journey!
For students in grades PK-4:

Svaku večer ćete primati e-poštu do 20 sati s detaljnim detaljima o učenju za sljedeći dan i uključujući sve relevantne veze ili resurse. Nastavnici su dobili mogućnost da pregledaju sve aktivnosti učenja za nedelju u ponedeljak, or sharing learning activities on a day-to-day basis. Bez obzira koju metodu je odabrao učitelj, svakodnevno ćete primati e-poštu u 20 sati.

For students in grades 5-12:

Aktivnosti učenja na daljinu biće objavljene na stranicama kurseva Schoology. Sedmični plan učenja biće objavljen do 20 sati svake nedelje kako bi studenti i porodice mogli planirati nadolazeću nedelju. Studenti će pristupiti planovima učenja za svaki predmet u koji su trenutno upisani. Planovi učenja biće u mapi koja se nalazi na vrhu svake stranice s predmetima s predmetima.

  • Teachers will include learning from all content areas. Learning plans will include a mix of introducing new content and allowing students time to practice and reinforce what has been introduced.
  • Students will not need to be in front of a device for all of their learning time. Learning plans will include a combination of experiences that require technology and do not require technology. Students will spend time reading, writing, or solving math problems away from a screen.
  • Special area teachers (such as gym, music, and art) will each share one lesson a week for students to engage in.
  • Students will receive weekly learning plans from their teachers for all of the courses they are currently enrolled in at MMS or MHS. The weekly learning plans will be organized so that students can engage with learning in a manner that best fits their schedule and learning preferences. Some students may prefer to engage with each course daily and some may prefer to focus on 1-2 courses per day.
  • Learning plans will utilize a variety of different methods to engage students in learning new content and skills. Learning plans will include a combination of experiences that require technology and do not require technology.
  • Learning plans will primarily ask students to utilize different tools and resources they are familiar with and have used throughout this year. If a student needs additional support or guidance with any aspect of a learning plan, they are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the Comet Connect Time and/or email their teacher. More information about Comet Connect Time is below (seeWhat if my student needs help completing an assignment or is struggling to keep up with assignments?”).

Your intervention specialist will be in touch with you to develop individual plans for lesson delivery.

MCS is committed to living out our Culture Guide through this time and to reflect a Comet Cares approach to teaching and learning, including our grading practices. Our Comet Cares approach will allow us to be compassionate, responsive, and equitable to our students’ and families’ unique situations and circumstances. Students and their families are having a wide range of experiences during this worldwide crisis. Recognizing the challenges they may be facing, and that they are out of their control, our grading policies must do no harm to any child. During this time of remote learning, our focus is first and foremost on student learning and ensuring our students’ well being. The link below offers greater detail about our approach to grading during remote learning.

Understanding that many families are juggling multiple responsibilities at home and that during a regular school day students have some non-learning time (na primjer, at lunch, transitioning between classes, or recess), our expectation is that students will spend less than a full school day actively engaging in learning activities. Exactly how long students spend engaged in learning activities will vary depending on their learning pace.

If you find that your student is overwhelmed and learning activities are taking too long or that your student is ready for extended learning activities, please reach out to your teacher.

Teachers may offer opportunities to connect via live video call (na primjer, through Google Meet) but they will not be required. Teachers may also use asynchronous video-based technologies, such as FlipGrid i SeeSaw, to communicate with students.

At MMS and MHS, teachers will follow a schedule for when they offer opportunities, called Comet Connect Time, to connect via live video calls to help avoid students having overlapping meeting times.

All teachers will offer support during “Comet Connect Time.” This is a regularly scheduled time when teachers are available in real-time for questions or extra help. Teachers will choose from a variety of tools to connect with students, including Google Meet, Google Docs, and email. Each teacher will communicate his or her specific time and tool for Comet Connect Time.

Students and parents are, of course, also welcome to contact their teacher(s) anytime for help. Teachers will reply within 24 hours to all questions.

Our Learning Support Team continues to be committed to providing services and support to the greatest extent possible during this time, including meeting the individualized needs of our English language learners, students receiving reading support, and gifted learners. Below you will find additional information about each of these services. As always, feel free to call or email your child’s intervention specialist or teacher should you have questions. We are here to help!

English learners will continue to be supported by the ESL staff who will work in close collaboration with classroom/content teachers and parents. ESL teachers are contacting each family individually, as supports will be individualized based on student needs and plans. Any ESL specific learning will be regularly communicated by the ESL teachers.

Reading teachers will share weekly work via email (K-4) or in Schoology (5-6). Pored toga, reading teachers will connect individually with families to provide additional reading practice and support.

Gifted Specialists will share activities with the students they typically interact with to provide enrichment and extension options. In grades 1-4, Gifted Specialists will email initial information on how to access gifted work. In grades 5 i 6, Gifted Specialists will post learning activities in Schoology.

Intervention and related services staff are contacting individual families via phone and virtual meetings to discuss services and to develop Remote Learning Plans that support both core and specially designed instruction. Based on each student’s Learning Plan, intervention specialists and related services staff will post or email weekly intervention work. Pored toga, team members (intervention specialists, related services staff and/or paraprofessionals) will schedule times to interact with students remotely.

Support for your student may take many different forms, depending on their needs. What we have learned from school districts in states that have launched remote learning before Ohio is that it can take a couple of weeks to settle into a new learning routine. Allow yourself and your child time to adjust, knowing that our team of educators is here to support you as we figure this out together.

Additionally, a few strategies you may wish to consider:

  • Encourage your student to take breaks throughout the learning process, rather than trying to complete everything in one chunk
  • Provjeri www.GoNoodle.com za učenike osnovnih razreda (raznovrsni kratki videozapisi za smirenje i napajanje)
  • Middle and high school students can access online resources here koje uključuju duboko disanje i vođene vježbe opuštanja, vežbe razmišljanja i meditacije, i progresivne vježbe opuštanja mišića.
  • Slušajte opuštajuću muziku
  • Pristupite MCS Mindful Music na: citysilence.org/learn, Lozinka: mindfulmason
  • Look at your student’s learning activities for the day or week and work together to create a daily schedule and individual goals
  • Celebrate your student’s accomplishments, large and small
  • Have daily check-ins with your student about what is going well and where they may need help

Please start with your student’s teachers. If you have questions that your student’s teacher is not able to answer or you are seeking more support, building administrators will also be available to support you.

Email [email protected] and Mason’s technology team will assist you.
