K-12 Remote Learning and Grading Overview

We are all living in unprecedented times and the impact on our lives, kesane, civakî, and professionally, is significant. MCS dilsoz e ku di vê demê de Rêbernameya Çanda me bijî û nêzîkatiya Lênihêrînên Comet a hînkirin û fêrbûnê nîşan bike. Nêzîkatiya Lênihêrîna Comet me dê bihêle ku em bi rehm bin, pêrakirin, and equitable to our students’ and families’ unique situations and circumstances.

Our approach to grading reflects the following principles, rooted in our Culture Guide:

While we adjust to a new remote learning experience, bala me berî her tiştî li fêrbûna xwendekar û misogerkirina başbûna xwendekarên me ye. During this unprecedented time, students’ grades are secondary to student learning.

Strong relationships and open communication among our school teams, xwendekar, and families are essential elements for supporting students’ engagement in learning.

Students and their families are having a wide range of experiences during this worldwide crisis. Naskirina kêşeyên ku ew dikarin rû bi rû bimînin, û ku ew ji destê wan derdikevin, pêdivî ye ku polîtîkayên meyên notkirinê zirarê nede tu zarokî.

Grades K-5 Remote Learning and Grading

Not: In grades K-5, students receive standards-based scores on report cards rather than traditional grades. Standards-based scores share information about students’ progress towards mastery of standards.

  • Students are expected to engage with Remote Learning Experiences and progress in their learning. Students will demonstrate engagement by responding to activities and completing RLE assignments sent via email (K-4) or posted on Schoology (Gr. 5). If students need extra support, families or students should reach out to their teacher with questions, needs, and concerns.
  • Students who are actively engaging in Remote Learning Experiences will be “held harmless” for second semester scores. Graded RLE learning assignments/activities during remote learning can only maintain or raise a student’s standards based score.
  • Our school teams will make a Comet Cares Effort to connect with students who are not engaging in remote learning. A teacher, in conjunction with the building team (administrators, counselors, and support educators where appropriate), will make every attempt to connect with the student and family to determine how to support the student in engaging in the RLE learning and assignments/activities.
  • Students who do not engage in Remote Learning Experiences, an kî astên bingehîn ên têgihiştinê nîşan nade, will receive a standards based score that reflects their understanding at the date of closure. Our school teams will make every effort to support each student. Ger xwendekar nekarin bi fêrbûna ji dûr ve jî bi wan piştgiriya ji tîmê dibistanê re mijûl bibin, the school team will collaborate with students’ families to determine future steps for the student’s learning.

Grades 6-12 Remote Learning and Grading

Not: Di sinifan de 6-12, students receive letter grades (A-F).  Grades are calculated on a semester basis, with credit being awarded at the end of each semester. There will not be second semester final exams this year.

  • Students are expected to engage with Remote Learning Experiences and progress in their learning. Students will demonstrate engagement by logging into their Schoology courses and completing and submitting RLE assignments and activities, including graded learning components that allow them to demonstrate their understanding of the content. Students who need extra support should reach out to their teacher with questions, needs, and concerns.

  • Students who are actively engaging in Remote Learning Experiences will be “held harmless” for second semester grades. Any graded assignment/activity during remote learning cannot harm a student’s 2nd-semester grade for a course, i.e. cannot lower their grade from what they had at the beginning of remote learning (Avrêl 6, 2020). Graded RLE learning assignments/activities during remote learning can maintain or raise a student’s grade.

  • Students who do not engage in Remote Learning Experiences, an kî astên bingehîn ên têgihiştinê nîşan nade, will receive an “Incomplete.” Our school teams will make every effort to support each student. Ger xwendekar nekarin bi fêrbûna ji dûr ve jî bi wan piştgiriya ji tîmê dibistanê re mijûl bibin, tîmê dibistanê dê bi xwendekar û / an malbatê re hevkariyê bike da ku gavên pêşerojê ji bo fêrbûna xwendekar diyar bike.
